Porous versus nonporous sex toy materials

Porosity is about tiny spaces in the material

A porous material contains spaces that can retain moisture or residue. In pleasure products, this most often matters with TPE, TPR, jelly rubber and many realistic-feel elastomer blends. They can be soft, affordable and genuinely enjoyable, but ordinary surface washing cannot make them equivalent to an intact nonporous material.

Nonporous materials commonly include properly finished silicone, borosilicate glass, stainless steel and hard ABS plastic. Their surfaces are easier to clean thoroughly when intact. Seams, motors, coatings and charging openings still affect the care of the complete object, so nonporous does not mean boil everything or ignore the instructions.

Porous does not mean unusable; it means a different routine

I do not treat every porous product as forbidden. Soft sleeves often rely on elastomers to create textures that rigid materials cannot. The honest version is that they need prompt washing, complete air-drying and separate storage, and they may need replacement sooner if they become tacky, torn, stained or permanently odorous.

A compatible condom over a product can reduce direct contact and simplify sharing, but it does not repair a damaged surface or make every shape easy to cover safely. Change the barrier between people or body areas and follow its lubricant compatibility.

Silicone needs more than a reassuring label

Silicone can be soft, dense, matte, glossy, flexible or firm. Pigment and finish vary. A product described only as silicone gives you a useful starting point but not a complete manufacturing history. Look for a reputable manufacturer, clear care instructions, consistent surface and a warranty that matches the price.

Home burn tests and twist tests do not reliably prove purity and can ruin a product or create fumes. I would rather evaluate the documentation, construction, smell, surface stability and manufacturer transparency than set a new purchase on fire for an internet trick.

Storage prevents materials from becoming each other's problem

Store clean, completely dry products separately when soft materials could touch. Some elastomers can transfer oils, soften or become tacky in contact with other products. A breathable pouch or individual container also keeps lint and dust away without trapping wash water.

Powder supplied for a soft stroker may be intended to restore its dry surface after washing. Use only the product and method the manufacturer names; household powders, fragranced products and improvised coatings can introduce ingredients that were never meant for intimate contact.

Label individual pouches if several products look similar, and keep the original care card or a photograph of it. Good storage should make the correct routine easier to remember, not hide the material until the next use.

Inspect before reuse. Cracks, peeling coatings, sharp chips, permanent swelling, an unfamiliar sticky surface or exposed electronics are reasons to stop. Material language helps you plan ownership; it cannot make a damaged product safe.
