A plain-language guide to common sex toy types
If every category page seems to invent its own language, use this as the map. I have grouped products by what they do, what they ask from you and the trade-offs that matter in ordinary use.

External vibrators: bullets, palms and wands
Bullets are small vibrators designed for focused, repositionable contact. Palm vibrators give the hand a wider body to hold and may spread sensation over a little more area. Wands use a broad head and a longer handle for leverage, wide contact and often stronger motors. The category does not tell you the exact strength, frequency or lowest setting, so reviews still matter.
Air-pulse stimulators also sit in the external family, but they use rhythmic pressure changes through an opening rather than relying only on a vibrating surface. They are more placement-dependent than a bullet and can feel more focused even without firm pressure.
Insertable products: G-spot toys, rabbits and dildos
G-spot vibrators use a curve or fuller tip for directed pressure inside the vagina. Rabbit vibrators add an external arm and try to coordinate two contact points at once; flexibility and proportions determine fit. Dildos leave rhythm, depth and angle in your hands. They may be straight, curved, textured, harness-compatible or fitted with a suction cup.
A non-vibrating design is not less sophisticated. Firmness, weight and shape can create a very specific experience without a motor. Powered thrusting or rotating designs add movement but also increase cleaning, charging and mechanical complexity.
Penis-focused products: sleeves, strokers and rings
Sleeves and strokers surround part or all of the penis with texture and pressure. Open-ended designs can be easier to size, rinse and control; enclosed designs may create more suction. Soft realistic-feel materials are common and often porous, so drying, separate storage and replacement are part of ownership.
Rings fit around the penis or penis and testicles, sometimes adding a vibrating element for solo or partnered stimulation. They should be easy to remove and used according to time and fit guidance. Pain, numbness, unusual coldness or color change means remove the ring immediately and seek medical advice if symptoms persist.
Anal and prostate products need purpose-built safety
Butt plugs, anal beads and prostate massagers must have a flared base or another design that prevents the entire product from moving into the rectum. A narrow neck and wider base are not decoration; they are retrieval and retention features. Choose manageable dimensions, use generous compatible lubricant and move gradually.
Prostate massagers add a curve for directed pressure. Some vibrate or connect to an app, while others use manual movement and pelvic-floor contractions. A vaginal dildo without a flared base should not be repurposed for anal use just because its material is otherwise suitable.
Shared products are defined by control and fit
Wearables, remote toys, app-controlled products, couples rings and strap-on systems all add another person or another control method to the experience. Check connection privacy, manual fallback controls, harness fit, O-ring compatibility and whether the product remains comfortable in the positions you expect to use.
